How To Use YouTube To Grow Your Online Business

Author: Kevin Tyler Smith

YouTube is a veritable addiction for many. With thousands of videos spanning all genres free for you to watch, it’s a wonder people are able to leave its website. Nevertheless, the popularity currently enjoyed by YouTube – and which is most likely to continue for quite some time – can be effectively used to help your online business grow.

 Create a Video

Videos should only be a few minutes long. Anything over than five minutes could take too long a time to download for users without broadband connection; it may also be too long for busy and impatient viewers.

Your video must be directly related to your online business without being a blatant advertisement. It could be informative or entertaining, just as long as it’s interesting and fun for your viewers.

 Create A YouTube Channel

It’s not enough to have a standard account in YouTube. If you want your videos to be noticed instantly, you need to create your own channel. In truth, the website gives its members their own channel automatically, but only a few make use of its inherent benefits.

Having your own YouTube channel allows you to create your profile page, link back to your online business, and of course, arrange and modify your content according to your preferences. Your channel has other customizable features so make sure you check those as well.

 Create Playlists

Playlists in YouTube work the same way playlists do in other multimedia players. You can select your own videos or other people’s videos to make up your playlist. Playlists containing videos discussing the same topic make it easier for users to view related content. If you include your videos, you increase the chances of people learning more about your website. Ultimately, creating playlists benefit your viewers by helping them conclude their search queries more efficiently. If your videos are included in the search results, so much the better.

To make your playlists more view-worthy, try looking for other videos that have excellent potential but haven’t yet achieved much exposure.

 Connect With The YouTube Community

YouTube may be a video-sharing website to many, but it is also ultimately a social networking website as well. It allows you to add friends and send messages to other members. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of its various communication features to spread the word about your videos. Send emails and write posts in the bulletin board.

You should also consider leaving comments on other videos. If you say something interesting or appreciative, most users would return the favor and visit your page as well. If they like what they see, they could add your videos to their playlists as well.

Last but not the least, consider creating video responses. This usually means having to make an altogether new video – one that appropriately responds to the original video – but the hard work’s worth the active interest such responses usually generate.

When making a video response, make sure that it’s pertinent to the original topic. Be courteous at all times and avoid using potentially undesirable content or one that could give you enemies. Choose your target video carefully: you’d want something that’s already popular with YouTube viewers. Make sure your response is unique from other people’s responses and lastly, be sure to post your response with perfect timing. Aim to be the first or post when the greatest number of people from your target market are most likely logged in to the website.

Taking the Right Action: Four Qualities Your Online Mentor Must Have, Part II

Author: Jennifer Herndon

We talked last time about how often new marketers get lost in all of the how-to products that are available. Studying courses about attaining internet marketing success can be the action that prevents you from doing what you really need to have online success.

The “anti-gurus” proclaim that you should buy no products. You can learn it all for free by searching online. I doubt this is true. But, even if it is, no one has the time to do this. And if you did, your time would be way better spent taking action towards attaining online success rather than reading about it.

The best shortcut to internet marketing success is an online mentor. Not a guru. Not someone who’s made a lot of money online. But a mentor. Someone who can lead you step-by-step to internet marketing success. Your online mentor may be a guru. But, not all gurus are mentors. Not everyone who can make money online can teach others how to make money online.

How do you find an online mentor? I’ve spent more money than I want to add up figuring this out. I have uncovered specific characteristics shared by all great mentors. Knowing these characteristics will arm you with the information you need to find your mentors, and your eventual online success. And hopefully, it will save you thousands of wasted dollars and at least that many wasted hours.

My most effective mentors share four qualities. First, your online mentor will provide personal customer support. This is an excellent indicator that they care about your online success. Submit a support ticket to your potential mentor, or call the customer support number. Ask a question about a product you’re considering purchasing. How quickly do you get an answer? Do they ask questions to determine whether the product’s right for you? Or just give you a heavy sales pitch? What kind of overall feel do you get from your interaction with the customer service folks?

Second, the best online mentor is one whose internet marketing success is not dependent on promoting every new product. Pay attention to which marketers promote every product. Or better yet, which ones DON’T. If you are used to seeing promotions from one of your potential mentors and they don’t promote a big product, ask why. A good mentor will answer you. One of my mentors states up front whether a product is for newbies, intermediate and/or advanced marketers.

Third, your online mentor should have developed a product that you have benefited from. In your journey to internet marketing success, you should purchase products. You can’t become a successful doctor without going to medical school. Online success also requires training. If you buy a product and it helps you, it means the developer of that product “speaks your language.” This is essential to an effective mentoring relationship.

Finally, the best online mentor is going to give you value for free. They are going to routinely give you free products or helpful free advice. They really do care about your online success. Look on their website for free tools and resources. Save their emails and see if there’s a pattern of valuable content, or just a bunch of product promotions.

In time, you will discover more than one online mentor. You may rely on some more than others in your rise to online success. But, don’t try to go it alone. Success leaves footprints. Why not follow in them? Just don’t fall into the trap of thinking the biggest “guru” is the best online mentor. Do your research. Choose wisely who you follow. Internet marketing success will come faster than you think.

Taking the Right Action: Shortcuts to Online Business Success, Part I

Author: Jennifer Herndon

If you are going to succeed in your online business, you must take action. Massive action. Consistent action. Action fueled by your burning desire.

But, when you first start an online business, or if you have been struggling to earn money from home, you might sit in front of your computer, really wanting to take action, and having no idea what to do. Not because you don’t have any information on what to do. Much more likely, you have WAY too much information on what to do.

Information overload is the number one reason people don’t take action. You are overwhelmed. You have two hours a night to work on your online business. Yet it will take 200 hours just to get through all of the “how-to” information you have. And another 200 hours to implement it. That is if you have the knowledge and ability to implement it at all.

So, realistically, how can you achieve success when you start an online business? I mean success now. Not twenty years from now.

I can tell you absolutely that the way to earn money from home is NOT to sit at home and spend money. And the opportunities to spend money abound. Part of your work when you start an online business is to subscribe to the internet marketing experts’ lists. And you should do this. You will get a lot of good free information and tips about how to find online business success.

But you will also be flooded with new product offers. All of them have well written sales letters. All of them claim that making money from home is easy. Most of them promise to be the new system that’s going to change it all for you. Most of them guarantee that even a newbie can do it. But, the fact is, with most of them you are not going to earn money online.

Why? Not because the product creators are scam artists. This is rarely true. So if you are trying to take action but still not finding online business success, what’s wrong? What’s wrong with all of those $97 products you’re buying. Maybe you’ve even tried the $397 product, the $997 product, or more. I’ve got them all.

Here’s what I’ve found to be wrong with them. Either the product isn’t what someone just trying to start an online business should be buying. Or, the product doesn’t provide you with a complete system. And, without a complete system in place, it’s near impossible to earn money online unless you have the time and ability to set it all up yourself. Most people have neither.

Part of the problem is that the people who are marketing these products to you aren’t marketing them to you. They are marketing them to their list of thousands of people. And the product may only be the “right” product for a few hundred of those people.

But, the marketer doesn’t know you. Doesn’t know who you are. Doesn’t know what you need. Doesn’t know if you are making money from home or just trying to get started. And, unfortunately, usually they don’t care. They are promoting a product for a friend. Usually one of their fellow expert marketers. Or they are trying to win a JV contest and just want to sell as many of the product as they can.

So what is the answer? Not buy any products? No. Not unless you are looking to take the long road. I’ll reveal the shortcut to online business success next time.

Developing a Millionaire Mentality for Home Business Success, Part II

Author: Jennifer Herndon

Minimum mentality people let things happen in their life; millionaire mentality people MAKE things happen. So how do you learn to control your life, rather than letting your life control you? You become devoted to a lifetime journey of personal development and growth. First, find mentors who speak to you.  Listen to and read everything your mentors say. Next, find successful people and copy what they do.  You’ve probably heard that success leaves footprints, and it’s true. You might as well walk in them rather than taking an unproven and uncertain path.

Sounds great, but is it that easy to get started? What’s step one? In any endeavor, personal or business, it’s so easy to suffer from information overload. To get so overwhelmed with all of the available information that you can’t even take step one. Oftentimes, it’s hard to even figure out what step one is.

The first thing you need to do is take a serious look at who you spend your time with. For me, I sadly realized that 100% of the people I was spending any significant time with were minimum mentality people. Make a list. Write down everyone you spend time with, how much time you spend with them, and what you do during that time. And then make some hard choices. Some of these relationships may be so toxic to your mindset that you must completely eliminate these people from your circle of influence. There are some people you can spend an occasional few minutes with, some you can spend hours with, and hopefully at least one you can’t get enough time with.

And here’s a big word of caution — DON’T underestimate the power of influence a minimum mentality person has over you. You may think you can ignore the negative influence, but especially when you’re still struggling to develop a millionaire mentality yourself, you don’t stand a chance at home based business success unless you surround yourself with the right people.

This was never more clear to me than when I attended Lisa Diane’s Millionaire Training Camp. Spending three days engaged with others living and seeking the millionaire mentality was incredible. It was inspirational, empowering, fostered limitless creative thinking, and was just plain fun. It would be worth almost any sacrifice for the opportunity to live with such people in such an environment for even just a year.

The reality is that because the millionaire mentality is found in only 3% of people, at most, you aren’t going to be surrounded by them every day all day in most cases. But as you work to develop relationships with millionaire mentality people locally, remember you can engage yourself with the right people by reading the right books, and listening to personal growth CDs in your car, your bed, and around your house. As you get into your journey, you will meet people online and at seminars that can provide terrific support and friendship opportunities.

So let’s get started. Take an honest look at who you’re spending your time with. Make some hard adjustments — step out of your comfort zone — and get to work on filling as much of your day as possible with those who have, or desire, a millionaire mentality. By doing this, you’ve put yourself 90% closer to home business success.

Developing a Millionaire Mentality for Home Business Success, Part I

Author: Jennifer Herndon

The difference in the “millionaire mentality” and the “minimum mentality” is the difference in the life or the death of your home based business. The overwhelming majority of people live their entire lives knowing nothing and living nothing other than the minimum mentality. And that’s fine for them. But, they live paycheck to paycheck, with no real desire other than to see Friday come — and, ultimately to see 30 years of Fridays come so they can retire. In other words, they do the “minimum” that is required to get by in life. If this is you, well, you probably aren’t reading this. And, you shouldn’t be, as nothing here will be of benefit to you.

If you are looking for home based business success, then you have at least some desire for something more than 30 years of 9 to 5 and a nice watch at the end. While it is essential to home based business success, learning to think like a millionaire is easier said than done. It’s a transformation that requires us to step out of our comfort zone, which is something most people avoid at all costs. The minimum mentality is easy because for most of us, we’re making it okay as things are. We’re getting by. We may be unhappy in our jobs, or living paycheck to paycheck, but we’re surviving. And for those who aren’t drifting through life in a comfort zone, those who may be drowning in debt or unhappiness, the millionaire mentality is perhaps even a greater leap because it’s so hard to get your mind off of your current stresses.

Developing your millionaire mentality is hard work, yes, but the payoff is priceless. There will be days when you want to give up, when you say “none of this works,” and when you question whether it was “meant to be” for you. But once you’re there, your whole life will change. You’ll start seeing every challenge as an opportunity, every failure as the seed of a greater success to come.

Do you know of someone who appears to be lucky? Someone who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, who always seems to have things go her way? We often look at people like this and think they aren’t smarter than us, prettier than us, they don’t work harder than us — so what gives? Good things happen for people like this because they have a millionaire mentality — they expect good things to happen to them. Such people often times are dumber than you, uglier than you, and lazier than you, but that doesn’t matter! They achieve home based business success, or whatever success they desire, because they think they can.

The thought of the day, led by the book and movie The Secret, teaches us to “ask and you shall receive,” and that the only thing you have to do to get what you want is to simply want it. I love The Secret, but this aspect is a little misleading. There’s an assertion that we each have our own personal genie, who grants our every wish simply upon our command. Sorry, but it’s quite a bit more complicated than this.

You can become one of those people that everything goes right for; the one who appears to be inexplicably blessed. But it’s going to take some work. Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. For things to change, you must change. Fortunately for you, if you have a burning desire, you can develop the millionaire mentality. Coupled with focused action, this mentality leads to home based business success. We’ll get started next time.

Personal Values Development and Your Online Business

Author: Jennifer Herndon

My cell phone stopped working last night. So I found myself spending Saturday evening with what seemed to be half the city at the cell phone store.

What I encountered there was a surprisingly hostile crowd. I overheard complaints about repair prices and wait times, witnessed bickering among customers about who should be standing where, and found myself inconveniently placed next to a man who was demanding to see camera footage to prove he hadn’t been in the store on an earlier day.

There was nothing particularly bad about my visit to the store. I had to wait longer than was convenient, but the store appeared to be fully staffed and running as efficiently as possible. The sales associate that helped me was knowledgeable and friendly.

Yet, as I continued to witness the discontent around me, and as another customer attempted to engage me in complaining, I found myself getting frustrated and irritable like the other patrons.

I couldn’t identify any basis for my change in attitude. Clearly, the hostility of the atmosphere was sucking me in. Because my work on personal values development made me conscious of it, I was able to pull myself up and maintain a pleasant and positive mental attitude. But truly, it was work.

And truly, it will be work for you to maintain a positive attitude when getting your home based business off the ground. That’s why you must have a solid start on your personal values development before you worry about how to HTML and FTP, and what your Cpanel is.

It all goes back to the fact that your home based business success is 90% dependent on your mindset. And the beauty of it is that your mindset, your attitude, is 100% within your control.

At the cell phone store, I could have bought into the negative atmosphere and become completely frustrated with my visit there. But,what purpose would this have served me?

Once you allow something to put you into a bad mood, it has a compounding effect. Think about the times that you’ve had a bad day. Generally, whether you recognize it or not, you let one thing negatively affect you and after that everything else just seems to go wrong that day. It’s not that you’re just completely unlucky and the victim of the universe’s bad fortunes that day. Rather, it’s that everything you encounter is colored by your mindset — which is, “I’m having a bad day.Others who have the misfortune of talking to you on one of these days may ask if you “woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”.”

Students of personal values development don’t have bad days. It’s not part of their mindset. They know that no matter what the challenge, how they react is totally and exclusively within their control. And they chose to react by seeing the positive in things; by turning apparent defeat into new success.

Personal values development is essential to the success of your home based business for many reasons. Most importantly, you must learn how to overcome the “minimum mentality,” and adopt the “millionaire mentality” to really get somewhere with your business. I’ll go into detail about these mentalities next time.

At least 97% of the people in this country have the minimum mentality. These are the people that warn you against those “work from home scams,” or “pyramid schemes.”.” These are the people who fill you with stories of their uncle Joe who failed at his home based business. They are even those people who, as they encourage you, are giving you that “how naive that you’re trying that, you’ll quit within six months” smile at the same time. These are the people who — like most of the people in my previous life — will share your desire for financial success and time freedom, but will never take any action to make it happen, out of belief that it won’t happen.

If you want to begin to succeed in your home based business, you’ve got to get away from these people. Or, at the very least, limit your time with the minimum mentality folks and form friendships and business relationships with the millionaire mentality crowd. This can be easier said than done, especially considering that — at most — that crowd consists of only 3% of the people.

But, if you want to persevere through the initial struggles of getting your home based business off the ground, it’s essential. The first step is to embark on a personal values development journey that will give you the millionaire mentality. I’ll show you how to start this journey next time.

Structuring Your Business Entity

Author: Jeremy Gislason

When you start a new business, you’ll have to decide upon the type of business entity to want to use.  There are a number of options available to you, and each has its advantages and disadvantages.  There’s simply no one-size-fits-all answer as to what type of entity is the “best”.  You need to take stock of your particular situation, and decide what’s best for you and your business.

The most common types of entities are:

• Sole Proprietorship – This is the simplest form of business organization, where the business effectively operates as an extension of the owner.

• General Partnership – This is a relatively simple way for two or more partners to own and control the operations of the business.

• Limited Partnership – This form of business organization is similar to a General Partnership, except that all but one of the partners can limit their personal liabilities if something goes wrong in the business.

• Limited Liability Company – This form of business entity provides limited liability to all of its members, and the members have more flexibility (compared to general partnerships and limited partnerships) in how they want to allocate the profits and losses of the business.

• Corporation – This well-known entity is a common way for businesses to organize themselves.  The corporation is considered to be a separate legal “person” under the law, so it is taxed on all corporate income.  Any amounts paid to shareholders as dividends are also taxed to those shareholders.

The summary above is very much simplified, so you should do more research on each of these types of entity, and the suitability of each for your business.  In doing so, here are several key things you should consider:

Timing Issues

How soon do you plan to start your business?  It is generally very easy to organize your business as a sole proprietorship, and you will spend less time preparing and filing paperwork than with the other types of business entities.  Forming a corporation can be noticeably more difficult than forming the other types of entities.

Thankfully, most states have made the formation process much easier for all types of business entities, by permitting applicants to file their initial paperwork and yearly reports online.

Ownership Issues

Will you own the business yourself, or with other?  Certain business structures more easily accommodate more than a single owner, and limited liability companies are very flexible in their ownership structures.  Different types of corporations (such the “subchapter S” corporation, which is similar to a limited liability company in tax treatment) have limitations on the number and type of permissible owners (such as that the owners must be individual persons, not other corporations).

Also keep in mind when you are preparing your organizational documents that you should consider what you want to happen if one of the owners wants to leave the business.  It may be uncomfortable (and seem unnecessary) to think about this at the beginning of the business, but it can save a lot of stress and expense if these issues are worked out beforehand.

Financing Issues

How do you intend to finance the growth of your business – do you anticipate seeking outside investment?  If so, what kinds of investors will you target?  Different types of business entities are better suited to different types of investors.

For example, limited liability companies can easily be structured to accommodate many different types of investors.  Not surprisingly, corporations are often the investment vehicle of choice for large and institutional investors.

Expenses

In general, the simpler legal structures are less expensive to form, and require less money to maintain.  For example, depending on its capital structure, a corporation formed under the laws of Delaware could be required to pay tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in so-called franchise taxes.  These extreme situations apply to corporations that are extremely large, but they illustrate how you need to factor these considerations into your business planning.

Recordkeeping Requirements

You may also wish to consider the various recordkeeping requirements that are applicable to each type of business entity.  You’ll need proper accounting records regardless of the type of your business entity, but the additional legal recordkeeping requirements can vary.  For example, corporations have relatively stringent recordkeeping rules (compared to other entity types), and also have shareholder and annual meeting requirements.

Liability Concerns

Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to give liability issues extra consideration.  If you’ll have employees making deliveries or otherwise driving on company business, then it’s not hard to imagine a traffic accident occurring, and this could expose your business to lawsuits. A sole proprietorship does not protect the personal assets of the owner.  This means that if there is a successful lawsuit against your business, the suing party can use your personal assets (like your car, your savings account, and your house) to satisfy their claim.  The general partners of a general partnership have similar exposure.

The limited partners of a limited partnership, the members of a limited liability company and the shareholders of a corporation are all generally insulated from personal liability.  However, certain legal formalities must be observed, otherwise a court can “pierce the veil” of the legal entity and disregard the liability protections that would otherwise apply.

Tax Matters

Different states have different tax laws and requirements, so you should consult your tax or accounting advisor to learn more about exactly what to expect in your state.  In general, in a sole proprietorship the profits and losses of the businesses will pass through to the owner’s individual tax return.  This avoids the additional layer of taxation that occurs at the corporation level.  Similarly, the limited liability company structure does not incur taxation at the company level; the tax on income occurs at the level of the individual members occurs only on income that is distributed to them.

These are just some of the issues that you’ll need to consider when you decide which type of business entity is the best fit for your needs.  Take the time to think about what you’ll need, and you’ll likely end up saving yourself a lot more time (and money) in the long run.

Benefits of Using YouTube Video Codes

Author: Jeff White

In the beginning of the Internet, the only way to customize a website was using only text and pictures. Thanks to the rapid development of the Internet and the fact that costs for server space are lower in comparison to previous periods, video is the new feature that the Internet has to offer. Of course, let’s not forget that the Internet connections are very rapid nowadays so you won’t have any problems loading a certain video.

Take for example YouTube, where you will find lots of videos about everything; think about a topic, I’m certain you will find what you are looking for there. On YouTube you have the possibility to upload your videos and share them with the world; this is the way it has become so popular. But, some people want more than that: they want to showcase video content on their personal websites; they want to find out how they can do it, the solution is: using video codes.

For example, you have the possibility to search for any video you can think of fromYouTube throughout your website and after that get the related codes for those videos so that you can download them to your personal computer in order to see these videos. Blogs are the new thing on the Internet. These blogs are for people who want to write about every topic you could think of, they gossip and also they like to share certain files with other people. When it comes down to sharing videos, YouTube Video Codes will be your perfect solution. It is a very simple procedure: all you have to do is create a playlist of your favorite YouTube videos a website which offers these services. After that you have the possibility to generate a 3D playlist for others to view.

There are different types of playlists and it all depends on where you will use these playlists. You have the possibility to display your video playlist via text or better, you can use large 3D image or flash links. Such links can easily be used on blogs, forums and other places. Due to the fact that everything is free on YouTube, there are unlimited ways to benefit from what YouTube offers, you can use videos in different ways, and it is up to you what you want to do with these videos.

For those who have blogs, YouTube video codes offer the perfect way for displaying content so that the visitors can see without having to upload these videos on your personal server. Video playlists have a big advance: you can insert as many videos as you want, there are no limitations, restrictions. These videos are the best alternative in comparison to big graphic description followed by text. In a lot of cases, big graphic descriptions and text explain a simple process, a major fuss for nothing if you ask me; uploading videos on YouTube and creating a playlist and after that using simple video codes you will grant access to your users which will visualize your videos and get the whole idea without having to read a very large and boring text. In other words, if you want to express something don’t do it using pictures and text, do it using videos.

As you can see, using YouTube video codes will give your blog, website, forum a new and dynamic look. The best thing about YouTube is that it is absolutely free, everybody can use it. Another great advantage about video codes is that they are very easy to use; this is why YouTube video codes are becoming more and more popular.

Publish a free press release and benefit

Author: 12 Press Release

By posting news or articles about you and your business in Google News or any other search engines, you stand a fairly good chance of generating traffic to your site. The more people see you and read about you, the more chances that a percentage of that number will gravitate to you. The more people read about you, the higher the number of visits you will have. Besides, just being in Google News is a really big deal, and people know that if you are in Google News, you are worth the space they give you. It means you are a force to be reckoned with. You are upcoming.

Because a press release can be sent out in the form of a news article rather than a paid advertisement or review, the cost for advertising done through a press release is often very low, if not completely free.

If your press release becomes popular, then the results could also lead to other websites linking to your site. Your press release would then have also succeeded in creating the much envied “linkbait”.

Many services online, such as “ 12 Press Release ”, ” World Press Release ” or “ Free Press Release ” will publish your press release totally free – therefore continuing the idea that you can get a great amount of exposure with little or no investment apart from your input.

But don’t be fooled, press releases do take time, and perhaps practice as well. First of all, you need a concise and catchy headline.

Whether it’s an intriguing question or an interesting statistic, you need something in your headline that will catch the eyes of both the web journalists and the web readers alike.

Once you have written a good press release, go ahead and send it out to as many of the best press release websites and companies and see how much traffic you can gain for free!

In addition to submitting your press release to print and television media, you should take advantage of the press release sites that the web has to offer, both free and paid are available. There are many free press release websites for you to take advantage of. They create free backlinks to your website which helps with search engine optimization (SEO). Just make sure you follow each site’s guidelines for submission carefully, or else your press release will be rejected by the editor.

The press release that gets published on one of the media outlets will have your website link provided within it. Those who have reviewed your release and want more information will click through the link or check out the website.

Once the optimized press release is distributed, it gets picked up on various sites and channels including news search engines such as Google news and Yahoo! news. Every time another website picks up the press release, it reproduces the release along with all of your keywords and links. This has the effect of generating widespread backlinks (links back to your site).

Press releases are one of the most powerful publicity tools available today for all business owners. Use it to your advantage and join all the other successful internet marketers who have use press releases many times in the past with very positive results.

Does the Tech-savvy Baby Boomer Exist?

Author: Dr Karen

Last week my friend spent 4 hours teaching her 64-year-old mother how to program her brand new Ti-Vo to record her two favorite daily soaps. After 4 hours Mama Brown asked her daughter to return the “useless” machine to the store and bring her a good ol’ VCR that could easily record her shows. While there are many baby boomers like Mama Brown who couldn’t send an email to more than one person at once, or take 10 minutes to type a text message, there are just as many who have embraced technology as a crucial facet in everyday life. There are many boomers who instant message, can program their iPod nanos with no difficulty, even keep track of their daily blogs.

Tech-savvy baby boomers are quickly becoming the norm. Recent studies have shown that America’s 78 million boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, are just as likely as Gen X-ers and Gen Y-ers to own a mobile phone or to use the Internet. But the technology products and Web services they use often reflect the concerns boomers have as they move into their 60s. “Kids adopt new technology because it’s fun and cool and they’re curious,” says Dr. Reisen, co-founder of a popular boomer social website. “Boomers adopt technology as they need it.”

The lifestyle of the boomer generation influences the products they buy, says Susan Walker, founder of the Smart-Silvers Alliance, which seeks to promote awareness and development of consumer-friendly technology products for seniors. “Younger generations don’t hang around the house too long; they’re all about having portable media, personal entertainment,” Walker says. As we get older, we develop cataracts, weight gain, arthritis and that makes portable entertainment a tougher sell. The older generation loves TV, but you can’t stare at a 2-inch screen without having to get a stronger eyeglass prescription.

Difficulty of use is a common complaint; mobile phone developers have been chasing the younger generation with slicker, smaller handsets. Those tiny buttons are not made for an adult hand. That is probably why you don’t see many boomers text messaging.
